Community Builder: Fostering Christ-Like Relationships
Community Builders Throughline: We actively pursue and build Christ-like communities in our classrooms, neighborhoods, and global village. Our work and our living promote peaceful, shalom-filled communities.
Community is a central theme in the Bible, with many passages highlighting the importance of living in harmony and supporting one another. Acts 2:44-47 describes the early Christians living in a community, sharing everything they had, and praising God together. Similarly, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 speaks about the body of Christ, emphasizing that every member is essential and interconnected.
Community building involves creating environments where everyone is valued, respected, and included. At Avail Academy, students learn to see their classrooms, neighborhoods, and the global village as opportunities to build Christ-like communities that reflect God’s love and grace.
Being a Community Builder means actively engaging in actions that promote community. At Avail Academy, students are encouraged to:
Classroom Activities: Participate in activities that foster teamwork, cooperation, and mutual respect.
Service Projects: Engage in service projects that benefit their local and global communities.
At Avail Academy, our students learn in the classroom while actively engaging with the world around them, living out our Throughlines in tangible ways.
5th Graders Visit Seniors
Mrs. Val Van Holland’s 5th graders continued a cherished 12-year relationship with Cloverleaf Courts Senior Apartments residents. Before their first visit of the year, students reflected on what it means to be Community Builders, discussing how to create meaningful connections with the senior residents. They practiced thoughtful communication—making eye contact, engaging in conversations beyond one-word answers, and showing genuine interest by asking questions of their new friends.
This experience is more than just a visit. It's about building relationships and intentionally finding ways to bless others, reflecting the love and care that we, as a community, are called to show. Our students are learning that being a Community Builder means fostering meaningful connections, and through this, they are both blessed and a blessing to the residents.
A Vision for the Future
Ultimately, being a Community Builder means working toward a vision of the world that reflects God’s love and grace. It’s about creating environments where everyone feels valued and respected, fostering peace and understanding. At Avail Academy, we inspire our students to carry this vision into their futures, building Christ-like communities wherever they go.
