Earth Keeper: Stewarding God’s Creation

Earth Keepers Throughline: We respond to God’s call to be stewards of all creation. As caretakers and gardeners of all creation, we reclaim and relearn how to respectfully treat the world and all things in it.

At Avail, Students learn the importance of being stewards of God’s creation. We emphasize the call to care for the Earth and all its resources responsibly.

The Bible teaches that humans are entrusted with the care of God’s creation. Genesis 2:15 states, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Psalm 24:1 reminds us that “the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” Earth keeping is an act of obedience to God’s command to steward His creation.

Stewardship involves recognizing that all creation belongs to God and that we have a responsibility to manage it wisely. At Avail Academy, students learn to see themselves as caretakers of the environment, entrusted with the task of preserving and protecting it for future generations.

Being an Earth Keeper means taking concrete steps to care for the environment. At Avail Academy, students learn about:

  • Sustainable Practices: Adopt sustainable practices such as recycling, reducing waste, and conserving water and energy.

  • Gardening and Agriculture: Participate in gardening and agricultural projects that promote sustainable food production and habitat restoration.

  • Environmental Advocacy: Engage in advocacy efforts to promote environmental protection and sustainability.

Cultivating a heart for stewardship involves developing a deep sense of respect for the natural world and a commitment to preserving it. Students learn that caring for the Earth is an act of worship and a way to honor God’s creation.

Earth Keeper Throughline in Action

Our 5th-grade class ventured to the Blaine Wetland Sanctuary, embarking on a guided hike to explore the unique ecosystem found in this rich wetland area. The site’s extraordinary peat soil reaches depths of up to 60 feet and attracts scientists from across the country who study seed preservation and water conservation here. Our students will complete their fieldwork tomorrow, testing water samples and reporting their findings to the Coon Creek Watershed District.

Thanks to a “Water Education Grant” from the Coon Creek Watershed District, this fieldwork was made possible, giving students a hands-on opportunity to appreciate God’s creation and learn to serve as earth keepers through the resources He provides.

A Vision for the Future

Ultimately, being an Earth Keeper means living out a vision of the world that reflects God’s call to stewardship. It’s about taking responsibility for the environment and inspiring others to do the same. At Avail Academy, we inspire our students to carry this vision into their futures, becoming advocates for sustainability and environmental protection.
