The novel (new) coronavirus disease – now called COVID-19 – is a prominent topic right now.

At Avail Academy, we are actively monitoring the situation and its potential impact to our schools. For all community health issues, we rely on information and guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health, and, as appropriate, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Minnesota Department of Education.

At this time, Minnesota Department of Health is sharing the following:

  • The risk of becoming sick with COVID-19 is low, including for people in Minnesota schools. There are no confirmed cases in the state of Minnesota. If there are any suspected cases in our school community, we will receive immediate notification from MDH.

  • The guidance to schools is to operate normally. MDH is not recommending, nor are we, canceling any school activities, events or extracurriculars.

  • The recommendation is that people stay home when sick, cover their cough, and practice good hand hygiene. These recommendations are especially important during cold and flu season, which is persisting this year and shares common symptoms with COVID-19.

As we monitor the situation, we will develop plans based on guidance from the department of health. We will provide additional information based on the recommendations as they become available.
