Servant Worker: Bringing Joy and Healing
Servant Worker Throughline: We actively work to heal brokenness and bring joy to individuals and culture. We cultivate the desire and ability to offer hope, healing, and restoration to this world and its people in gratitude for the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ.
At Avail Academy, students are taught to work actively to heal brokenness and bring joy to individuals and culture. We emphasize the importance of offering hope, healing, and restoration in gratitude for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
The Bible teaches that serving others is a central aspect of following Christ. Matthew 20:28 states, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Galatians 5:13 also advises, “Serve one another humbly in love.” Servant work involves following Christ’s example by serving others selflessly and sacrificially.
Servant work involves recognizing the needs of others and taking action to meet those needs. At Avail Academy, students learn to see service as a way to express God’s love and to bring healing and joy to the world.
Being a Servant Worker means actively seeking to serve others and bring about positive change. At Avail Academy, students are encouraged to:
Community Service: Participate in community service projects that address local needs and promote well-being.
Acts of Kindness: Engage in acts of kindness that bring joy and comfort to others.
Advocacy and Justice: Advocate for justice and equity, working to address systemic issues and support marginalized communities.
Cultivating a heart for service involves developing a deep love for others and a commitment to making a positive impact. Students learn that servant work is not just about doing good deeds but about embodying the love and compassion of Christ in their actions.
Servant Worker Throughline in Action
We believe in “reclaiming the world” for Christ, one act of service at a time. Our 9th-grade World Geography class recently lived out this mission.
As part of their studies on immigration and geography, the students applied their knowledge to serve a refugee family of seven from Syria: a mom, dad, and five children from elementary to high school age. Having journeyed through unimaginable challenges, this family is starting a new chapter in their lives.
Our students helped move the family into their new apartment and prepared a thoughtful welcome basket filled with flowers, treats, cleaning supplies, and other essentials. This small gesture of love and care spoke volumes about what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ.
The project continues our commitment to serving refugee families through our GO Projects. These opportunities remind us that our faith is not something to keep to ourselves—it is a light to share with others.
A Vision for the Future
Ultimately, being a Servant Worker means living out a vision of the world that seeks to heal brokenness and bring joy. It’s about following Christ’s example of selfless service and inspiring others to do the same. At Avail Academy, we inspire our students to carry this vision into their futures, becoming agents of hope and healing in their communities and beyond.
